Hi-Tech RO Membranes Hi-Tech RO membranes have the capability to remove particles as small as ions i.e. magnesium ions or sodium ions. It will reject most compounds based largely on size. Dissolved ions, such as salts, carry an electric charge and will also be rejected by the membrane. It can filter out bacteria, depending on the bacteria size, however, this may cause fouling of the membrane as bacteria can begin to grow through pores of the membrane causing BACTERIA CREEP – RO systems should not be installed on non-potable water. The RO membrane is a membrane that is a form of a filter in general terms. The pore sizes of its elements can be between 0.1 to 5,000 nanometers (nm). The size depends upon the component being filtered from the water. The smallest filter can restrict minerals and salts to pass through the membrane and purify the water through a pressure system. The pressure system works by applying pressure to the water which forces the water to gush through the membrane which in the process purifies it and cleans the water. The membrane systems are strong enough to filter different bacteria’s and germs from the water as well.
